RE: Grand Teton Park RV Resort-Moran, WY

It has been a dump for as long as I've been going to Yellowstone.

RE: yellowstone or grand canyon for first out west trip

Having done both multiple times I'd would do Yellowstone/Grand Teton. Both have scenery, but the wildlife at Yellowstone makes the difference.

www.recreation.gov will answer your question with better accuracy than my guess.

RE: cheap generators

Cheaper generators make considerably more noise and must run at 3600 RPMs at all times to generate clean power. An inverter will save you some gas money by running at lower RPMs when max power is not being required. Inverters are unfortunately more than double the price.

RE: How big of a generator to run my trailer

You should be fine with 2400-3500 watts. I have twin 2000 watt Honda inverters, unless I need the AC I only run one. If I had it to do over again I might consider a single 2400 watt Yamaha - but I have plenty at 4000 watts total 30 amps x 117 volts = 3510 watts Since your trailer has 30 amp service anything bigger is a waste!

RE: Does Gulfstream make a good trailer?

I have a Gulfstream and will not buy another one ever. The dealer was OK but when we moved we had trouble getting anyone to do warranty work. We ended up driving two hours to a repair shop. The repair shop owner was nice but said he would never work with Gulfstream again after helping us and I understand why! We intervened while the trailer was at his shop or they would not have honored their warranty. Fortunately the dealer we bought it from also called Gulfstream on our behalf. Both slides gouged the flooring. The dealer noted it, but could not fix it before we moved. During the move a flying object hit the front of our trailer and put a dent about the size of a quarter in the aluminum on the front of the trailer. Gulfstream told us the flooring being gouged was was the trailer being "wrecked." The damage occurred before the dent and a small dent could not have caused both slides to gouge the flooring. The repair shop found screws on the bottom of both slides that had not been seated! Never again!

RE: Yellowstone NP ????

Somewhere between 4 days and a lifetime should be enough to see Yellowstone. If you never get off the pavement 4-12 days is enough. If you like to explore then the sky is the limit. Get some books on Yellowstone and decide what you want to do. I recommend that you divide the part in four sections (NE, NW, SW, and SE) and do everything you want to do in that section and then move on. This will minimize wasting time driving. Traveling across the park will utilize lots of time, it is huge.

RE: Grand Tetons in the fall!

We're heading out to Colter Bay on Monday again for fall colors and moose viewing. Here's a photo from a previous trip (my first attempt at posting the photo). If you're in the area and see a Titanium 5er with a tan Dodge Ram from Colorado, stop by and say hello. Russ & Terri http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo152/mooseprints/tetonsfall.jpg height=209 width=640 Your photo is fantastic - I wish I was going back there soon. Have a great time.

RE: Red Tide?????

I lived in Fort Walton Beach for 3 years and never had a love bug invasion. Strange. Red Tide is indeed red. That is an annual affair - if not more often.

RE: First Trip to Beaver's Bend

I can not give you a recommendation as to where to stay, but that park was awesome. I have many good memories from that park.

RE: silverton railroad

Mesa Verde was a great place to stay. They have a nice trail you can take you dog on behind where you park your RV. It has some of the nicest people running that park. Someone previously mentioned they have a dog sitting service.

RE: Evacuation Help for RVers from Hurricane

Remember that hurricanes bring flooding, torrential rains, high winds, and often spawn tornadoes. We were 2.5 hours inland from a hurricane many years ago and experienced all of the above except flooding, due to our elevation.

RE: RV site availability

Fuel was about $4.50 per gallon during the summer vacation season. It is under $4 now. We intentionally reduced our longer trips this year. Fuel prices are have risen too high and it is just one way of reducing our consumption. I'm sitting on the beautiful Pacific coast and there are plenty of places closer to home.
